Lowther Deer Park

Venue Lowther Deer Park UK

Lowther Deer Park is a historic and scenic estate located in the Lake District National Park, near Penrith in Cumbria, England. Its history is deeply intertwined with that of the adjacent Lowther Castle, a magnificent 19th-century gothic ruin that stands on the site of a much earlier building. The deer park itself was established in the 14th century and has been a central part of the Lowther family’s extensive agricultural estate for centuries. While the great castle fell into disrepair in the 20th century, a charitable trust was established to restore the castle and its 130-acre gardens, making the entire estate a popular visitor attraction.

Today, Lowther Deer Park is not just a place of historical significance and natural beauty but also a premier venue for a variety of large-scale events. It is most famous as the home of the annual Kendal Calling festival, but it also hosts other events like obstacle courses and various community gatherings. The park’s stunning landscape, with its rolling hills, ancient trees, and dramatic views, provides a spectacular and unique backdrop for these events, drawing thousands of visitors each year to a place steeped in both history and natural wonder.
