Electric Avenue is going seriously big for 2027!
New Zealand’s Electric Avenue Festival has revealed the full line-up for its return to Christchurch, with KINGS OF LEON and CALVIN HARRIS heading up two very different days of music at Hagley Park.
The festival returns on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th February 2027, with a line-up that jumps comfortably between rock, electronic music, pop, drum and bass, R&B and some of the best homegrown talent New Zealand has to offer.
And if the idea of putting KINGS OF LEON, CALVIN HARRIS, MAJOR LAZER, BEBE REXHA, KASABIAN, JUNGLE and UNDERWORLD on the same festival poster sounds like a slightly unusual combination, that is rather the point.
It is Electric Avenue doing what Electric Avenue does.
KINGS OF LEON RETURN TO CHRISTCHURCH
Friday’s bill is led by KINGS OF LEON, who will make their first appearance in Christchurch for 19 years.
The American rockers have a huge following in New Zealand and have scored five number one albums in the country, making their return to the city a particularly big moment for the festival.
They will be joined on Friday by MAJOR LAZER, BEBE REXHA, KASABIAN, HYBRID MINDS, K MOTIONZ and New Zealand favourites FAT FREDDY’S DROP, among a packed supporting line-up.
British indie and electronic crossover favourites KASABIAN add another big name to the day’s rockier side, while MAJOR LAZER bring their distinctive blend of electronic, dancehall and global sounds.
Then there is FAT FREDDY’S DROP, one of New Zealand’s most enduring live acts, alongside a strong selection of local artists.
CALVIN HARRIS TAKES OVER SATURDAY
Saturday brings a very different headliner – CALVIN HARRIS will headline the second day of Electric Avenue, with the Scottish DJ and producer making his first New Zealand appearance since 2019.
His performance will be his only New Zealand show, adding another reason for fans to head to Christchurch for the weekend.
There is plenty more going on around him, too.
JUNGLE, UNDERWORLD, KEHLANI, TOVE LO, WILKINSON, GORGON CITY and LIME CORDIALE are among the artists joining Saturday’s bill, creating one of the most eclectic days of the festival.
UNDERWORLD will make their only New Zealand appearance at Electric Avenue, while JUNGLE’S festival performance is also set to be exclusive to the event.
For drum and bass fans, WILKINSON, HYBRID MINDS and K MOTIONZ provide plenty of firepower, while KEHLANI, TOVE LO and BEBE REXHA bring a very different flavour to the overall line-up.
ONE FESTIVAL, A LOT OF DIFFERENT SOUNDS
What makes the Electric Avenue announcement particularly interesting is the sheer range of artists involved.
This is not a festival trying to stick to one particular genre or audience.
You can go from KINGS OF LEON and KASABIAN to FAT FREDDY’S DROP, then from CALVIN HARRIS and GORGON CITY to UNDERWORLD and WILKINSON. There is pop, rock, electronic music, house, drum and bass, R&B and plenty in between.
And importantly, the local contingent is not simply there to fill out the poster.
Alongside FAT FREDDY’S DROP, the 2027 bill features TH’ DUDES, LADYHAWKE, HOME BREW, SACHI, COTERIE, DAILY J, SAVAGE and a host of other New Zealand artists.
TH’ DUDES will also be celebrating 50 years since forming, making their appearance another interesting addition to an already varied weekend.
ELECTRIC AVENUE 2027
The festival will once again take over Hagley Park in Christchurch for two days, with five stages providing the backdrop for what is shaping up to be a seriously busy weekend.
With more than 60 artists now announced across the two days, there is plenty to explore beyond the two headline sets.
Electric Avenue has also built its reputation around bringing together artists from different generations and musical backgrounds, and the 2027 line-up certainly continues that approach.
For fans, that means the festival can be whatever they want it to be. Come for KINGS OF LEON. Stay for MAJOR LAZER. Spend Saturday with CALVIN HARRIS, then discover UNDERWORLD, JUNGLE or one of the many New Zealand artists further down the bill.
That mix is becoming a big part of what Electric Avenue is about.
And with Christchurch providing the setting and summer in full swing, February 2027 is already looking rather tempting.
