From HELLOWEEN’S power metal celebration to the savage intensity of LORNA SHORE and the sinister atmosphere of WATAIN, Mystic Festival is building a line-up with plenty of bite.
If you thought Mystic Festival was going to take things easy in 2027, think again. The Polish metal gathering has added five major names to its developing line-up, combining a very special anniversary performance from HELLOWEEN with four bands representing some of the most compelling corners of the heavy music underground.
HELLOWEEN have been confirmed as the festival’s second headliner, bringing their 40 Years Anniversary show to Gdańsk. Joining them are deathcore force LORNA SHORE, Swedish black metal veterans WATAIN, hardcore pioneers CONVERGE and British occult rockers GREEN LUNG. It is a wonderfully varied announcement, with each act offering a completely different reason to head into the darkness.
Mystic Festival takes place from 10th to 12th June 2027, moving to a new home in Gdańsk’s Letnica district, on the grounds of Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk. FAITH NO MORE were previously announced as the first headliner, and the latest additions suggest the organisers have ambitious plans for the festival’s next chapter.
HELLOWEEN: FOUR DECADES OF METAL MAGIC
For fans of classic European heavy metal, Helloween’s appearance is a particularly exciting prospect. The German band helped establish the sound and spirit of power metal during the 1980s, combining speed, technical ability, soaring melodies and an unmistakable sense of theatrical adventure.
Their landmark albums Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I and Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II remain essential listening, packed with the kind of ambitious songwriting that helped shape an entire generation of metal bands. Songs such as I Want Out, Future World and Eagle Fly Free have long since become staples of the genre.
But HELLOWEEN are far more than a nostalgia act. Their modern line-up, bringing together different eras of the band’s history, has allowed them to celebrate their legacy while keeping the music very much alive. The Pumpkins United era helped reconnect fans with the band’s past, and their recent live performances have demonstrated just how effectively those classic songs still land with audiences.
The 40 Years Anniversary production promises a celebration of the band’s remarkable journey, drawing on four decades of material and the spectacular presentation that has become part of their live identity. With the anniversary show continuing into 2027 following a hugely successful run of concerts and festival appearances, Mystic Festival looks set to give Helloween a stage worthy of their status.
LORNA SHORE: DEATHCORE ON AN EPIC SCALE
Where Helloween represent the grandeur of traditional metal, LORNA SHORE deliver a far more punishing kind of spectacle.
The New Jersey band have become one of the defining names in modern deathcore, combining crushing heaviness with orchestral arrangements, cinematic atmosphere and astonishing vocal performances from Will Ramos. Their music is brutal, certainly, but it is also ambitious, dramatic and often unexpectedly melodic.
Their 2025 album I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me continued that evolution, with tracks such as War Machine capturing the band’s ability to turn extreme metal into something almost apocalyptic in scale.
Lorna Shore’s live performances have helped propel them beyond the traditional deathcore audience, attracting listeners who might never previously have ventured into the genre. Expect blast beats, breakdowns, sweeping orchestration and a crowd ready to unleash every ounce of energy when they arrive in Gdańsk.
WATAIN PREPARE FOR ONE FINAL CHAPTER
The announcement carries a more significant edge for fans of Watain. The Swedish black metal band are approaching the end of their journey, with 2027 marking 30 years since their formation and bringing plans for a final album and farewell run of performances.
Few bands have approached black metal with quite the same uncompromising intensity. Led by vocalist Erik Danielsson, Watain have built their reputation around music that draws on the genre’s rawest traditions while embracing ritualistic atmosphere, theatrical darkness and an almost confrontational approach to performance. Their appearance at Mystic Festival is therefore more than another name on a festival poster. With the band preparing to bring their career to a close, this could be one of the last opportunities for European fans to experience their distinctive live show.
For a festival that has always embraced the darker side of heavy music, Watain are a fitting addition, and their set could become one of the most talked-about performances of the weekend.
CONVERGE: CHAOS WITH A CONSCIENCE
Converge have spent nearly four decades proving that heavy music does not need to follow anyone else’s rules. The American band helped redefine the boundaries between hardcore punk, metal and noise rock, with their landmark 2001 album Jane Doe becoming one of the most influential releases in extreme music.
Their sound remains as volatile as ever, built around Jacob Bannon’s impassioned vocals, Ben Koller’s relentless drumming and the abrasive, unpredictable guitar work that has made the band so distinctive.
What separates Converge from many of their contemporaries, however, is the emotional depth beneath the noise. Their music can feel like a full-scale assault, yet it carries a deeply human quality, exploring vulnerability, anger, loss and the complexities of being alive.
Their 2026 releases, Love Is Not Enough and Hum of Hurt, have continued to demonstrate that the band have little interest in resting on their legacy. At Mystic Festival, expect intensity without compromise and a performance that will reward those willing to embrace the chaos.
GREEN LUNG BRING THE OCCULT TO LIFE
Rounding out the announcement are Green Lung, whose approach to heavy music is rooted in a very different kind of darkness.
The London band have developed a distinctive sound that blends doom and stoner metal with the spirit of classic British heavy rock. Their music draws heavily on folklore, witchcraft, ancient landscapes and the more unsettling corners of Britain’s cultural history, giving their songs an atmosphere that feels both familiar and faintly sinister.
Their fourth album, Necropolitan, released in September 2026, takes that fascination into London’s historic cemeteries, exploring the stories and secrets buried beneath the city. It is an ideal fit for a festival that thrives on atmosphere as much as volume.
Green Lung have a knack for combining weighty riffs with memorable melodies and an almost vintage sense of drama. They offer a welcome contrast to the relentless intensity of Lorna Shore and Converge, while sharing the same appetite for music that takes listeners somewhere beyond the ordinary.
A NEW HOME FOR MYSTIC FESTIVAL
The latest announcements arrive as Mystic Festival prepares for a significant change of scenery. After its previous editions at the Gdańsk Shipyard, the festival is moving to Letnica, where the larger grounds surrounding Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk offer the potential for bigger stages, more ambitious production and room to develop the event’s identity.
With FAITH NO MORE already confirmed as the first headliner and HELLOWEEN now joining them at the top of the bill, the festival is balancing major international names with acts that appeal to very different metal audiences.
That is what makes this announcement particularly effective. You can spend the weekend celebrating four decades of power metal with Helloween, lose yourself in LORNA SHORE’S extreme theatrics, witness WATAIN during their final chapter, or dive headfirst into the abrasive world of CONVERGE. GREEN LUNG, meanwhile, bring a dose of occult-flavoured heavy rock to round things off.
Mystic Festival 2027 takes place in Gdańsk, Poland, from 10th to 12th June. With more announcements still to come, the line-up is already offering plenty of reasons to make the trip.
