Jazz Open Stuttgart has made its first move towards 2027, announcing two artists who should make for a rather lively opening night.
PAROV STELAR and MEUTE will take over Stuttgart’s Schlossplatz on Monday 5th July, kicking off the 33rd edition of the German festival with a combination of electronic beats, brass and jazz that feels perfectly suited to an event that has never been particularly interested in staying inside the lines.
The announcement comes as preparations begin for Jazz Open 2027, which will run across Stuttgart from 30th June to 11th July.
PAROV STELAR BRINGS THE ELECTRO SWING
PAROV STELAR has become one of the best known names in the electro swing world, building a sound that brings together jazz, house, electronic music and swing.
The Austrian producer, DJ and musician has spent much of his career finding ways to make old sounds feel completely at home on a modern dancefloor. His live performances have become a regular fixture at festivals around the world, with the energy of a club night combined with the musicianship and visual character of a live show.
He is also no stranger to Jazz Open Stuttgart.
PAROV STELAR has appeared at the festival before, so his return to Schlossplatz will give audiences another opportunity to experience his distinctive blend of electronic production and live instrumentation.
MEUTE ARE BACK TOO
Joining him are MEUTE, the Hamburg collective that has built a huge following by doing something wonderfully simple: taking techno and playing it with a brass band.
With trumpets, trombones, saxophones, percussion and drums replacing the conventional club setup, MEUTE have developed a sound that is instantly recognisable and surprisingly powerful when experienced live.
They have also become regular visitors to the world’s festival stages, bringing the energy of a late night techno set into the daylight and turning brass instruments into something that feels entirely at home on the dancefloor.
Their appearance alongside Parov Stelar makes for an interesting pairing and should give the opening night plenty of movement.
JAZZ OPEN STARTS TO TAKE SHAPE
The two acts are the first names confirmed for Jazz Open Stuttgart 2027, although more artists are expected to follow soon.
The festival has already announced that further headline acts will be revealed during September and October, with tickets for the concerts announced so far due to go on sale from 9 October.
The 2027 edition will follow a hugely successful 2026 festival, which attracted more than 75,000 visitors to Stuttgart. This year’s event featured artists including Nick Cave, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Jamiroquai, Diana Krall, Jamie Cullum, Joss Stone and Moby.
That gives some idea of the scale and variety Jazz Open has become known for.
Despite the name, this is a festival where jazz can sit comfortably alongside soul, pop, rock and electronic
music, often producing some of the more unexpected combinations on the summer festival calendar.
And with PAROV STELAR and MEUTE getting things started in 2027, it looks like that approach is set to continue.
Jazz Open Stuttgart 2027 takes place from 30 June to 11 July, with PAROV STELAR and MEUTE performing at Schlossplatz on 5 July. More artists are expected to be announced shortly.
