Sziget Festival has announced the return of Day Zero, adding an extra festival day to its 2026 edition. On August 10th, The Island of Freedom will open with a special programme celebrating Sziget’s past, present and future, including performances by FAITHLESS and MORCHEEBA. The additional day also reflects recent political changes in Hungary, highlighting the festival’s commitment to freedom and independence. The announcement was made at a press conference in Budapest, where organisers also presented programme highlights, renewed festival districts, new developments and the launch of the Sziget SZociety Foundation.
Following Sziget’s return to Hungarian ownership in October, with Sziget founder Károly Gerendai back on board, Day Zero will mark a symbolic new chapter for the festival. Celebrating its independent spirit, the day will take visitors on a nostalgic journey through Sziget’s 33 years history, with legendary acts from previous editions and ticket prices reflecting the spirit of the past. FAITHLESS, MORCHEEBA and GORAN BREGOVIĆ with his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra will perform on Day Zero.
Sziget also announced the launch of the Sziget SZociety Foundation, an initiative aimed at supporting and highlighting organisations and communities working to help young people facing mental health challenges. As part of the programme, the SZuper SZociety Awards will be presented this year on the festival’s Main Stage.
Sziget CEO Tamás Kádár also shared updates on the festival’s renewed layout and expanding districts. In the north of the island, Wonderland will bring together Magic Mirror, Lightstage and Art Garden, while dropYard becomes a dedicated district for hip-hop and rap culture. Next to it, Delta District will form an electronic music triangle with Yettel Colosseum, BOLT Night Stage and Arzenál x Turbina Der Klub.
Der Klub is not just a party venue, but also a cultural space shaped together with two key players of the Hungarian club scene: Arzenál and Turbina. Our goal is to reconnect beloved Hungarian music venues organically with the Sziget festival experience – Tamás Kádár, Sziget CEO
Hungarian music will also take centre stage at the brand new Budapest Park Stage by Johnnie Walker, where leading Hungarian acts will be showcased in one concentrated location.
In 2026, Sziget will further strengthen its artistic and experiential programme. A key part of this renewed concept is Jardin des Arts, a complex arts district bringing together contemporary circus, dance, audiovisual experiences and interdisciplinary performances. Its new large-scale venue, Le Grand Theatre, will host spectacular productions for more than 1500 spectators each evening. Performers include French new-circus company Collective XY with Möbius, Dutch company Club Guy & Roni, Australia’s Australasian Dance Collective and the HIIIT and Boris Acket co-production Bad Nature.
The festival will also introduce an enhanced hospitality concept, with expanded food and drink options, as part of its ongoing commitment to keeping the Sziget experience accessible to all. New this year, drinks will be available at last year’s prices until 6 PM each day, while beer will be offered at 2024 prices during the same period. The Budget-Friendly initiative also continues this year, with affordable meal options available at almost every food stand.
Sustainability remains a key priority through the Green Sziget programme. New features include a farmers’ market with local seasonal produce, while the successful tent deposit system introduced in 2025 will continue after significantly reducing the number of tents left behind.
Camping is one of the most distinctive parts of the Sziget experience, with visitors from around the world free to pitch their tents across the island. For those seeking more comfort, a wide range of upgraded accommodation options and campsites is also available.
