The Town has barely started building its 2027 lineup, but it has already made enough noise to get people talking.
The São Paulo festival has announced SLIPKNOT as its first major act for the 2027 edition, with MARILYN MANSON also confirmed for the same day. Both will appear on the Skyline stage on 4th September, giving The Town a distinctly darker opening chapter.
SLIPKNOT hardly need an introduction. Nearly three decades after nine masked musicians from Iowa turned heavy music into something far more theatrical and confrontational, the band remain one of the defining live acts of modern metal.
And this is not just another festival appearance.
The Town says the São Paulo show will be SLIPKNOT’S only festival performance on their new tour. The band will also be bringing Brazilian drummer Eloy Casagrande back to his home country with them, adding another layer of significance to an already major booking.
For The Town, it is a suitably loud way to begin.
MARILYN MANSON will appear on the same Skyline bill, marking his return to Brazil after a decade away. The festival’s own description focuses on the visual side of his performances, from costumes and make-up to the theatrical production that has long been part of his stage persona.
His booking is also likely to generate discussion beyond the music. Manson has faced multiple allegations of abuse, which he has denied, and the festival has publicly defended the decision to book him.
Whatever the reaction, there is no denying that The Town has chosen two artists capable of turning a festival stage into a spectacle.
That matters because The Town is not really designed like a conventional festival. Created by the team behind Rock in Rio, it transforms São Paulo’s Interlagos circuit into the Cidade da Música, with different spaces built around different musical and cultural identities. Previous editions have combined international rock and pop with Brazilian music, hip-hop, jazz, electronic music and more.
The 2027 edition will take place across five days, on 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12 September. The festival has already established itself as a major event in São Paulo, attracting more than 500,000 people across its first edition in 2023 and 425,000 in 2025.
So this first announcement feels less like a couple of names being added to a poster and more like a statement of intent.
SLIPKNOT bring the masks, the volume and the chaos. MANSON brings the theatre and controversy. The Town provides a city-sized stage in one of the world’s great music capitals.
And this is only the beginning – If the first day of the 2027 lineup is already looking this intense, the question now is not whether
The Town has something big planned.
It is what they are going to announce next.
