Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Last year’s highly anticipated concert with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE had to be canceled due to health reasons, but now the singer, guitarist, and the band’s main architect, Josh Homme, is ready for round two. As if that weren’t enough, organisers are also adding the godfather of punk, the ever-relevant IGGY POP, to the bill. In other words, a two-pack of influential rock is coming to Way Out West in Gothenburg, 7th – 9th August.
Even the best laid plans sometimes go wrong! QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE regretfully had to cancel last year’s performance at Way Out West due to medical issues but now singer, guitarist and mastermind Josh Homme is ready to remedy that. After spending the 90s in the stoner rock underground, Queens of the Stone Age rose to notoriety with their break-through album ‘Rated R’ in 2000. While maintaining their Californian desert-vibes and their love for fuzzy, cyclical riffs, here we found the band expanding their musical horizons while creating a truly category-evading album. A success that wasn’t only matched, but even surpassed, on the Dave Grohl featured follow-up ‘Songs for the Deaf’ from 2002. Ever since that Queens of the Stone Age has remained one the most influential and prolific heavy rock bands in the world.
After collaborating with British producer Mark Ronson on the experimental record ‘Villain’ in 2017, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE returned to their primitively intelligent rock on ‘In Times New Roman…’ from 2023. Stripped from guests and external producers, Homme confronted his recent turmoil in a way perhaps best described as cathartic, dark and brutal. Once again, we welcome one of the world’s most renowned live acts to Way Out West 2024!
Imagining the history of rock music without the colossal influence of IGGY POP is an impossible task. Both as a member of iconic proto-punk band The Stooges and as a versatile solo artist, the godfather of punk has left his mark on practically every band and artist left of the center. And Iggy, unlike many of these artists and movements he inspired, is not only still around but also ever so relevant. The age-defying 77-year-old remains one of the most dynamic, energetic, primitive, and confrontational stage performers to ever exist. With an unbending physicality, the legendary Iggy Pop throws himself between songs from The Stooges and his solo work. The latter which includes everything from his classic albums produced by Bowie to his recent work such as the Josh Homme produced ‘Post Pop Depression’ (2016) and his latest album ‘Every Loser’ (2023), where Pop collaborated with pop architect Andrew Watt. Way Out West, get ready for the real wild child of music.
