A few days ago organisers released THE CURE and AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS for next year’s Øya Festival Wednesday, and now it is time to reveal that NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS will close the Thursday evening.
Their previous visit to Tøyenparken in 2022 has been described by many as the Øya concert of all time. Then they helped sell out their day many months before the festival, so now it’s time to decide quickly.
The fantastic Brighton duo LAMBRINI GIRLS will also play on the same day.
NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS grew out of the Australian band The Birthday Party, and debuted in 1984 with From Her to Eternity.
Since then, Cave and his band have alternated between sorrowful ballads, hectic rock songs, dark songs and mysterious post-punk, all equally stylish and strong.
Throughout the band’s first decade, Nick Cave and his fellow musicians had at least one foot in the underground. In the mid-90s, he reached an even wider audience with the albums Let Love In, Murder Ballads and The Boatman’s Call. Since then, he and the Bad Seeds have played on the biggest stages. This is a group that really ages with style, and delivers intense concert experiences.
Packed with remarkable songs, its mood of what you might call radical optimism is potent and contagious. You leave it feeling better than you did previously: an improving experience, in the best sense of the phrase – The Guardian (about their latest album Wild God 2024)
Even in periods without The Bad Seeds, Cave remains active as a writer, composer for film and theatre or solo artist alone with the piano. The Bad Seeds have experienced a number of replacements, but today’s edition consists of musicians who have been with them for many years.
He threw himself at each and every one of us as if we were old friends he would like to give a warm and loving earful. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds fulfilled this with a show that lasted over two hours and tilted Tøyenparken into the history books – Dagsavisen
Organisers hope for an equally emotional meeting with the band this time.
