Liverpool’s summer concert series On the Waterfront is returning in June 2027, with hometown favourite JAMIE WEBSTER and the spectacular CREAM CLASSICAL announced as the first headline attractions for next year’s event. Set against the city’s iconic Pier Head and the Three Graces, the four-day series will run from 17 to 20 June, bringing live music back to one of the UK’s most recognisable waterfront settings.
The first two announcements celebrate very different sides of Liverpool’s musical identity. JAMIE WEBSTER will deliver a huge hometown show on Friday 18 June, while CREAM CLASSICAL takes over on Saturday 19 June, reimagining dancefloor anthems through a live orchestral performance.
JAMIE WEBSTER BRINGS IT HOME
Few artists have built a connection with Liverpool quite like JAMIE WEBSTER. The singer-songwriter has become a major figure on the city’s music scene, winning fans with his direct, heartfelt lyrics and a sound that blends indie rock, folk and terrace-ready anthems.
His debut album, We Get By, topped the UK Folk Albums Chart following its release in 2020, helping establish him as one of Britain’s most distinctive contemporary singer-songwriters. Since then, tracks including Weekend in Paradise have struck a chord with audiences well beyond Merseyside, while his passionate live performances have helped turn his gigs into communal singalongs.
His appearance at Pier Head on Friday 18 June promises to be a particularly special occasion, bringing him back to his home city for a major outdoor headline show on the banks of the Mersey. Liverpool band THE CHEAP THRILLS will join him, adding their energetic indie-rock sound to the evening.
CREAM CLASSICAL BRINGS CLUB CULTURE TO THE WATERFRONT
Saturday 19 June will see CREAM CLASSICAL return to Liverpool’s waterfront, bringing together orchestral music, powerful vocals and the dance anthems that helped define the city’s legendary club culture.
Curated by K-KLASS and performed by the KALEIDOSCOPE ORCHESTRA, alongside the SENSE OF SOUND singers, the show transforms familiar electronic classics into a large-scale live production. Strings, woodwind, percussion and soaring vocals combine with dramatic lighting and sound to give club favourites a fresh dimension.
The concept draws directly on Liverpool’s dance music heritage, particularly the legacy of Cream, the influential club that helped put the city at the centre of international club culture. Rather than simply recreating a night in a nightclub, CREAM CLASSICAL takes that music into an open-air setting, bringing generations of dance fans together for a different kind of live experience.
Following its tenth anniversary celebrations in 2026, the show’s return to Pier Head gives it another opportunity to turn the waterfront into a vast orchestral dancefloor. Further details, including the full DJ line-up and additional vocalists, are still to be announced.
FOUR DAYS OF MUSIC IN LIVERPOOL
On the Waterfront has established itself as a major fixture in Liverpool’s summer calendar since launching in 2021. Its setting, surrounded by the city’s historic waterfront architecture, gives the event a distinctive atmosphere, while its programme regularly moves between rock, indie, pop and electronic music.
The 2027 edition will run from Thursday 17 June to Sunday 20 June. The opening Thursday and closing Sunday shows are still to be announced, leaving two days of the programme to be revealed.
