Three days, more than 40 bands and a line-up spanning heavy metal, alternative rock, nu-metal and modern metal. Boardwalk Rock returns to Ocean City in May 2027 with its biggest statement yet.
There are plenty of places to put on a rock festival. A beach in a popular American seaside resort, with an amusement park on the doorstep and a traditional boardwalk just metres away, is a rather different proposition.
That is the setting for Boardwalk Rock 2027, which returns to Ocean City, Maryland, from 14th – 16th May with a line-up that should appeal to several generations of rock and metal fans. After taking a year off in 2026, the festival is back with three headline acts that each bring something different to the table: IRON MAIDEN, KORN and BAD OMENS.
It is a compelling combination. IRON MAIDEN represent British heavy metal at its most enduring, KORN remain one of the defining names of nu-metal, while BAD OMENS have become a major force in the modern heavy music scene. Together, they give the weekend a broader identity than a festival built around a single strand of rock.
And with ALICE IN CHAINS, JUDAS PRIEST, BREAKING BENJAMIN, GOOD CHARLOTTE, THE PRODIGY and plenty more joining them, there is a serious amount of music to get through.
THREE HEADLINERS, THREE VERY DIFFERENT WORLDS
Friday, 14th May, belongs to KORN, whose influence on alternative metal and nu-metal continues to reach far beyond the late-1990s and early-2000s scene that helped establish them. Their dark, groove-heavy sound remains instantly recognisable, and their return to a festival bill alongside bands such as BREAKING BENJAMIN and SEVENDUST makes for a strong opening day.
There is an interesting twist to Friday’s programme, too. THE PRODIGY bring their explosive electronic-punk energy into the mix, while CYPRESS HILL and SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS add further variety. It is a bill that moves between heavy riffs, hip-hop, electronic intensity and classic hard rock without feeling confined to one lane.
Saturday, 15th May, shifts the focus towards BAD OMENS. The band’s blend of modern metal, atmospheric electronics and alternative influences has helped them connect with an audience that does not necessarily fit neatly into traditional genre boundaries.
They will be joined by GOOD CHARLOTTE, bringing a dose of pop-punk nostalgia, alongside MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, POPPY, MARILYN MANSON and TESLA. It is a particularly varied day, balancing established names with artists who have helped shape the sound of contemporary heavy music.
Then comes Sunday, 16th May, when IRON MAIDEN take centre stage!
Few bands have the catalogue, stage presence and history to close a festival of this kind. Their appearance is backed by ALICE IN CHAINS and JUDAS PRIEST, two acts with their own enormous legacies, as well as THE PRETTY RECKLESS, THE WARNING, THE HU, APOCALYPTICA and GWAR.
For fans of classic heavy metal, hard rock and alternative music, Sunday alone offers plenty of reasons to make the trip.

A LINE-UP THAT CROSSES GENERATIONS
One of the more interesting aspects of Boardwalk Rock 2027 is the way its artists connect different eras of rock music.
Iron Maiden and Judas Priest carry the history of British heavy metal into the present. Alice In Chains remain one of the defining bands associated with the Seattle grunge movement. Korn helped reshape heavy music for a new generation, while Good Charlotte became a defining name in the pop-punk boom.
Alongside them, Bad Omens, Poppy, Motionless In White and The Warning represent different directions in which rock and metal continue to evolve.
That breadth matters. Festival audiences are no longer neatly divided into groups who listen exclusively to one genre or generation. A fan might spend the afternoon watching a contemporary metal act before heading across the site for a band whose records were released decades before they were born.
Boardwalk Rock appears well placed to take advantage of that crossover, offering a weekend that rewards curiosity as much as loyalty to a particular band.
MORE THAN A FESTIVAL FIELD
The setting is another part of the appeal! Boardwalk Rock takes place at the Ocean City Inlet, with two stages on the beach and a third along the boardwalk. Rather than being isolated in a field outside town, the festival sits within an established seaside destination.
There will be more than 40 performances across the three stages, alongside food vendors and the businesses within the festival footprint. The Jolly Roger at the Pier amusement park is also located within the grounds, giving visitors another option between sets.
It creates the possibility of a different sort of festival weekend. There is the music, of course, but there is also the beach, the boardwalk, the restaurants and bars, and the familiar attractions of a traditional American coastal resort.
For visitors travelling from outside Maryland, that combination could be particularly appealing. The festival can form the centrepiece of a longer stay, rather than being the only reason to visit the destination.
May also offers a different atmosphere from the height of the summer season, although visitors should plan for changeable coastal weather and check travel and accommodation arrangements well in advance.
THE RETURN OF BOARDWALK ROCK
The 2027 edition follows a pause in 2026, after organisers and the town of Ocean City were unable to put together the festival experience they wanted for that year. Its return with a three-day programme and a heavyweight collection of international acts gives the event a fresh opportunity to establish itself on the American festival calendar. The line-up certainly makes a statement. Rather than relying on one headline name to carry the weekend, Boardwalk Rock has assembled a programme with several major draws and a supporting cast that stretches across the rock and metal spectrum.
The real test, as ever, will be how the weekend comes together on site. Stage schedules, clashes, sound, crowd movement and the overall experience will help determine whether the festival can turn a strong poster into a memorable event.
On paper, though, there is plenty to be excited about!

IS BOARDWALK ROCK 2027 WORTH THE TRIP?
For rock and metal fans looking for a festival with a strong headline bill and a destination beyond the stages, Boardwalk Rock deserves a place on the shortlist.
Iron Maiden provide the classic heavy metal draw, Korn bring their unmistakable alternative-metal sound, and Bad Omens offer a contemporary headline act with a very different musical identity. Add in Alice In Chains, Judas Priest, The Prodigy and a supporting line-up that covers plenty of ground, and there is a convincing case for spending the full weekend in Ocean City.
The seaside location gives it another point of difference. You can come for the bands, but the beach, boardwalk and amusement park help make this more than a straightforward concert weekend.
