The Czech festival is building a seriously diverse line-up for 2027, bringing together American thrash legends, black metal veterans, modern metalcore and some of the biggest names in Czech rock.
If you like your festivals loud, varied and unapologetically heavy, Basinfirefest 2027 is shaping up to be one to watch. Returning to Spálené Poříčí in the Czech Republic from 23rd to 26th June, the festival is assembling a line-up that reaches across generations of heavy music, from old-school thrash and street punk to modern metalcore and power metal.
Among the latest additions are American thrash veterans OVERKILL, Czech rock institution PRAŽSKÝ VÝBĚR, and ALICE with vocalist DAN BÁRTA.
They join an already intriguing bill featuring WIND ROSE, THE EXPLOITED, ROTTING CHRIST, CRYPTOPSY and Swedish modern rockers SMASH INTO PIECES.
It is a combination that gives Basinfirefest plenty to shout about, particularly for fans who prefer their festival weekends to offer more than one flavour of heavy music.
OVERKILL BRING THE THRASH METAL FIREPOWER
Few bands have spent as long flying the flag for American thrash metal as Overkill. Formed in New Jersey in the early 1980s, the band have built a reputation on relentless riffs, breakneck tempos and the unmistakable voice of frontman Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth.
Their appearance is a major draw for fans of classic thrash, with a catalogue that stretches from genre-defining early records such as Feel the Fire and Taking Over through to their more recent work. Overkill have never been a band to coast on nostalgia, and their live shows remain a full-throttle celebration of everything that makes thrash so enduring.
They will be joined by fellow American veterans Metal Church and Sanctuary, giving the festival a particularly strong dose of classic US heavy metal. Polish technical death metal outfit Decapitated will provide a much more punishing experience, while German metalcore band Any Given Day bring the breakdowns, crushing guitars and big melodic choruses that have helped define the modern scene.
British rock’n’roll devotees Asomvel and For Victory, whose performances celebrate the music of Bolt Thrower, round out a collection of acts that should keep the heavier end of the festival firmly in focus.
CZECH ROCK ROYALTY TAKES CENTRE STAGE
While the international metal contingent is impressive, Basinfirefest is also making room for some important names from its home country’s musical history.
Pražský Výběr are one of the most distinctive bands to emerge from the Czech rock scene. Known for their theatrical approach, adventurous musicianship and eccentric blend of art rock and new wave, they offer something quite different from the festival’s more straightforward metal acts. Their appearance should be a particular highlight for fans who appreciate rock music with a little more unpredictability.
Another major draw is Alice featuring Dan Bárta. The band’s alternative and crossover rock sound became a familiar presence in the Czech scene during the 1990s, and Bárta’s distinctive vocals make this a welcome addition to the programme.
Thrash metal veterans Debustrol and alternative rock outfit Kurtizány z 25. Avenue further strengthen the domestic contingent. Together, these acts give the festival a connection to the Czech rock scene that goes beyond simply importing international headliners.
FROM BLACK METAL RITUALS TO POWER METAL FANTASY
The line-up takes some interesting turns elsewhere, too. Greek extreme metal veterans Rotting Christ return with their dark, atmospheric take on black metal, blending extreme heaviness with melodic and often ritualistic elements. Canadian technical death metal pioneers Cryptopsy promise something considerably more ferocious, with the intricate musicianship and uncompromising intensity that have made them a major name in extreme metal.
For a very different kind of spectacle, Italian power metal outfit Wind Rose bring their fantasy-driven sound and larger-than-life approach. The band have built a particularly loyal following around their dwarven mythology and rousing, chant-ready songs, making them a natural fit for a festival crowd looking for a huge singalong alongside the heavier material.
Polish black metal project Batushka adds another atmospheric dimension, while Swedish outfit Smash Into Pieces bring a modern rock and alternative metal sound that incorporates electronic textures and arena-sized hooks.
Then there is The Exploited. The Scottish punk veterans have spent decades delivering confrontational, high-energy street punk, with Punks Not Dead remaining one of the defining records of the early 1980s punk movement. Their presence broadens the bill beyond metal and should appeal to anyone who likes their live music raw, direct and full of attitude.
A FESTIVAL WITH PLENTY OF DIFFERENT SIDES
What makes the developing Basinfirefest line-up interesting is the contrast between its artists. Overkill and Metal Church represent the enduring power of classic American heavy metal, while Decapitated and Cryptopsy cater to fans of technical extremity. Wind Rose offer a more theatrical power metal experience, The Exploited bring punk’s rebellious spirit, and the Czech acts add a strong sense of local identity.
That variety is important. The best festival line-ups give fans reasons to explore beyond their usual listening habits, and Basinfirefest appears to be building a programme where a set of old-school thrash can be followed by black metal, modern rock or a full-throttle punk performance.
Basinfirefest 2027 takes place from 23 to 26 June in Spálené Poříčí, around 24 kilometres from Plzeň. With further attention likely to turn to how the bill develops, there is still plenty of reason for heavy music fans to keep an eye on the Czech festival.
For now, the question is simple: which of these bands would you head straight to the front for?
