Noise Pop Festival 2027 Unveils First Wave of Artists!

USA Noise Pop 2027

Noise Pop Festival is bringing its independent spirit back to the San Francisco Bay Area in February 2027, with the first wave of artists promising an eclectic mix of indie rock, electronic music, experimental sounds and leftfield collaborations. Among the early highlights are LAMBCHOP WITH FREE KEY CHOIR, CAROLINE ROSE, DEERHOOF, MODESELEKTOR and a special project celebrating the music of BUTTHOLE SURFERS FRONTMAN GIBBY HAYNES.

Returning from February 18th to 28th, the festival will spread across more than 25 venues, with over 160 artists and upwards of 80 events expected across its 34th edition. Rather than gathering everyone into a single festival site, Noise Pop once again invites audiences to explore the city, moving between intimate clubs, established music venues and some of San Francisco’s most distinctive cultural spaces.

It’s a format that has helped make Noise Pop a fixture of the Bay Area’s independent music scene since its beginnings in 1993. The festival has always been about more than assembling a conventional bill, giving emerging artists room alongside established names and encouraging audiences to take a chance on something unfamiliar.

LAMBCHOP, CAROLINE ROSE AND DEERHOOF LEAD THE FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
One of the most intriguing bookings comes from LAMBCHOP, the Nashville experimental outfit led by Kurt Wagner, who will perform alongside Oakland’s FREE KEY CHOIR at Grace Cathedral on February 27th. The collaboration promises a striking setting for a project that draws on gospel traditions and choral arrangements, bringing an unconventional musical experience to one of San Francisco’s most recognisable landmarks.

The same evening, CAROLINE ROSE will make her Noise Pop debut at the Castro Theatre, marking the festival’s first performance at the recently revitalised venue. The singer-songwriter has built a reputation for moving between sharp-edged indie rock, pop and more introspective songwriting, making the theatre an interesting addition to this year’s programme.

Another major name for independent music fans is DEERHOOF, the long-running San Francisco band whose adventurous approach to art rock has consistently resisted easy categorisation. Their hometown appearance on February 24 gives local audiences a chance to catch one of the city’s most distinctive musical exports on familiar ground.

The announcement also includes GIBBY HAYNES: Butthole Surfers Mania, with the Butthole Surfers frontman bringing material associated with the influential Texas noise-rock group to the Great American Music Hall on February 27 and 28. Expect a very different atmosphere from the festival’s more melodic bookings, with the project leaning into the unruly, psychedelic side of alternative music.

ELECTRONIC EXPERIMENTATION AND LONG-AWAITED RETURNS
Electronic music has a strong presence in the first wave, with Berlin duo MODESELEKTOR performing live at Gray Area on February 19. Known for a restless approach to electronic production, the pair will be followed at the same venue on February 20 by fellow Berlin duo TWO LANES, whose more atmospheric sound offers a contrasting direction for the weekend.

Brooklyn’s HERE WE GO MAGIC are another particularly notable addition. The band will return to the stage for their first live performance in a decade, celebrating the 15th anniversary of their acclaimed album A Different Ship with a show at the Great American Music Hall on February 26th. For fans who have waited years to see the group again, this is one of the more compelling reasons to keep an eye on the developing schedule.

Elsewhere, singer-songwriter JESS WILLIAMSON opens the festival’s run of announced performances on February 18th, while jazz and electronic fusion outfit SUNGAZER will appear at SFJAZZ on February 28th. The programme also features GIRL ULTRA, RADIO FREE ALICE, CUT WORMS, THE STONE FOXES, POWERPLANT, BIG SIS, THE AYO BRAME EXPERIENCE, SPARKLMAMI, LABRATS, EARTHBALL, BUTTON MASHER, FAZE and GUMBY’S JUNK, among others.

The range is central to Noise Pop’s appeal. Indie rock sits alongside experimental performance, electronic music and genre-crossing jazz, creating a programme that rewards curiosity rather than asking audiences to stick to one scene.

THE CITY BECOMES THE FESTIVAL SITE
The multi-venue approach remains the defining feature of Noise Pop. Alongside Grace Cathedral, the Castro Theatre, Great American Music Hall, Gray Area and SFJAZZ, venues announced so far include The Independent, Rickshaw Stop, Swedish American Hall, Café du Nord, Brick & Mortar Music Hall and Kilowatt.

That spread gives the festival a distinctly San Francisco character. Rather than spending a weekend in one field, attendees can build their own itinerary, discover artists in smaller rooms and experience different parts of the city’s music culture over eleven days.

Noise Pop is also inviting Bay Area musicians and DJs to submit their work for consideration, continuing its support for local talent. Artists selected for the official programme will be paid for their performances, providing another route for emerging acts to reach new audiences.

The first announcement is only the beginning, with further artists, individual show details and events still to come. Festival badges are on sale now and offer access to the general admission shows across the event, subject to capacity and the festival’s entry conditions.

Noise Pop Festival 2027 takes place across the San Francisco Bay Area from February 18th to 28th. For music fans who prefer a little discovery alongside the names they already know, the first wave suggests another eleven days well worth exploring.
