The New York icons behind Is This It? will take over NorthSide next summer, bringing more than two decades of guitar-driven anthems to Denmark.
Some bands define a moment. Others help shape an entire generation of music. THE STROKES have done both, and now one of the most influential rock bands of the past 25 years is heading to NorthSide 2027.
The New York five-piece will play the Aarhus festival on Saturday 12th June, marking a major addition to a line-up that is already beginning to take shape. According to the organisers, THE STROKES have been among the festival’s most requested acts for years. Now, that long-awaited booking is finally a reality.
THE BAND THAT CHANGED THE SOUND OF INDIE ROCK
When Is This It? landed in 2001, The Strokes helped make raw, stripped-back guitar music feel exciting all over again. With its clipped riffs, restless energy and effortlessly cool attitude, the album became a defining release of the era and helped open the door for a wave of guitar bands that followed.
Tracks such as Last Nite, Someday and Hard to Explain became indie-rock staples, while the band’s influence can be heard in the music of acts including Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand. More than 25 years after their formation, the original line-up remains intact. Julian Casablancas leads the charge on vocals, alongside guitarists Albert Hammond Jr. and Nick Valensi, bassist Nikolai Fraiture and drummer Fabrizio Moretti.
Their sound has evolved well beyond the sharp-edged guitar attack of their early records. Albums including First Impressions of Earth, Angles and the acclaimed The New Abnormal have seen the band explore new textures and sounds without losing the identity that made them stand out in the first place.
A NEW ALBUM, A NEW CHAPTER
The NorthSide appearance comes as The Strokes enter another chapter with their seventh studio album, Reality Awards. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has spoken enthusiastically about the record, describing it as his favourite album the band have made and praising the way it keeps drawing him back for another listen.
That gives the Danish show an added sense of occasion. Fans can look forward to a catalogue packed with era-defining favourites, alongside the latest material from a band that has never been content to stand still.
For NorthSide, this is more than another big name on the poster. THE STROKES helped shape the sound of modern indie rock, and their arrival brings a genuine piece of music history to Eskelunden.
NORTHSIDE 2027 IS TAKING SHAPE
THE STROKES join an increasingly varied bill for NorthSide 2027, with TURNSTILE, OMAH LAY, MILLE, AKRIILA and VON QUAR already announced. The mix stretches from American hardcore and global pop to Danish talent and boundary-pushing sounds, suggesting a festival determined to bring very different musical worlds together.
NorthSide takes place in Eskelunden, Aarhus, from 10 to 12 June 2027. The Strokes are scheduled for Saturday, 12 June, and tickets are available through the festival’s official website.
For anyone who has spent the past two decades with Is This It? on repeat, this is the sort of booking that will demand a place in next summer’s plans. The Strokes are coming to NorthSide, and the guitars are about to get loud.
