The British indie favourites are heading to Eastnor Castle Deer Park next August.
There is something about THE KOOKS that feels made for a British summer festival. The guitars, the melodies, the effortless indie charm and a catalogue packed with songs that seem to sound even better when the sun is going down and thousands of people are singing along.
Now that feeling is heading to Lakesfest 2027.
THE KOOKS have been confirmed for the festival, which takes place from 11th – 15th August 2027 at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, adding one of British indie’s most enduring bands to next summer’s line-up.
Formed in Brighton in 2004, THE KOOKS arrived during the great British indie explosion of the mid-2000s and quickly established themselves as one of its defining bands. Their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, produced a string of songs that remain instantly recognisable, including Naïve, She Moves in Her Own Way, Seaside and Ooh La.
Nearly two decades later, those songs have lost none of their ability to connect with a crowd.
In fact, that is where The Kooks make perfect festival sense. Their music is built around memorable guitar lines, big choruses and songs that people somehow remember word for word, even if they haven’t listened to them for years. And then there is Naïve.
You can almost picture the moment already. The opening chords ring out across Eastnor Castle Deer Park, the crowd recognises the song within seconds and suddenly thousands of people are singing along.
It could be one of those defining moments of the Lakesfest weekend.
But writing The Kooks off as simply a nostalgia booking would be a mistake. The band have continued to evolve throughout their career, releasing new music, touring internationally and building a following that now stretches well beyond the generation that discovered them in the 2000s.
That makes their Lakesfest appearance particularly interesting. There will be fans who have followed the band since Inside In/Inside Out, alongside younger festival-goers discovering them for the first time. For both groups, the songs should have the same effect.
And the setting couldn’t be more appropriate.
Eastnor Castle Deer Park provides a very different backdrop from the huge arenas and city-centre festivals where The Kooks have played over the years. Surrounded by countryside and overlooked by the historic castle, it gives Lakesfest a distinctly British festival atmosphere. Put The Kooks on stage on a warm August evening and the ingredients are already there: guitars, sunshine, cold drinks, a huge crowd and some of the most recognisable indie songs of the last 20 years.
THE KOOKS at Lakesfest 2027? It already sounds like one of those festival sets people will be talking about afterwards.
