Tame Impala Lead a Seriously Ambitious First Roskilde Line-Up!

Roskilde Festival 2027 first acts news

Roskilde Festival has opened the door on its 2027 line-up, and if these first 18 names are anything to go by, Denmark’s legendary festival is once again refusing to play it safe.

At the top of the first announcement is TAME IMPALA, returning to Roskilde’s iconic Orange Stage for the first time in 11 years. But there is a significant detail that makes this appearance even more interesting: the 2027 show will be Tame Impala’s only Scandinavian festival appearance next year.

That alone would be enough to get the festival world talking. But Roskilde has gone considerably further.

Alongside Kevin Parker’s psychedelic universe comes a remarkably wide-ranging collection of artists covering experimental pop, country, punk, hardcore, metal, hip-hop, jazz, electronic music and everything in between.

In other words, this is very much a Roskilde line-up.

TAME IMPALA RETURN TO ORANGE STAGE
Few names in the announcement carry the same festival-sized anticipation as TAME IMPALA.

Kevin Parker’s project has spent more than 15 years turning psychedelic rock into something far more expansive, bringing together electronic production, alternative rock, pop and a distinctly dreamlike sense of scale. Their music has become almost tailor-made for huge outdoor stages, where the songs can expand into something considerably bigger than the recordings.

After an 11-year absence, Roskilde is clearly expecting the return to be an occasion.

And then things get interesting.

FROM PATTI SMITH TO KACEY MUSGRAVES
Roskilde’s first announcement moves effortlessly between generations.

CAROLINE POLACHEK returns with her highly inventive take on experimental pop, while eight-time Grammy winner KACEY MUSGRAVES brings a very different perspective, blending contemporary pop with the country traditions of her Texas upbringing.

Then there is PATTI SMITH QUARTET – With more than five decades of music, poetry and cultural influence behind her, Smith represents a very different kind of festival experience. Her presence also adds another layer to what is becoming a line-up built around artists with distinctly individual identities rather than simply chasing the biggest available names.

And that is one of the most interesting things about the announcement.

There is plenty here that you might recognise immediately. There is also plenty you might not.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE THEIR MUSIC LOUD
If your idea of a perfect festival involves considerably more volume, Roskilde has not forgotten you.

NEUROSIS arrive with decades of influential and uncompromising heavy music behind them, while California hardcore outfit DRAIN bring the kind of fast, physical sound that seems almost designed to create chaos in front of a festival stage.

British punk is represented by LAMBRINI GIRLS, whose confrontational live energy should fit naturally into Roskilde’s famously unpredictable atmosphere.  And then there is Denmark’s KONVENT, who take things in a darker direction with their heavy death-doom sound.

It is an impressively varied collection of heavy music, rather than simply one token rock or metal booking tucked into a predominantly mainstream programme.

THE ELECTRONIC WILDCARD
For anyone looking beyond guitars, the first announcement is equally ambitious.

UNDERSCORES brings together 2000s pop, EDM, dubstep and emo in a deliberately unpredictable electronic-pop collision. G JONES AND EPROM, meanwhile, join forces for a back-to-back DJ set that promises something considerably more experimental.

British jazz collective EZRA COLLECTIVE add another dimension entirely. Having become the first jazz act to win the Mercury Prize, the group have built a reputation around a joyous combination of jazz, soul, afrobeat and Cuban rhythms.

New York’s NU JAZZ push the genre somewhere stranger, combining jazz with drum’n’bass, noise and electronic music – This is not a line-up designed around neat genre boxes.

Roskilde Festival 2027 first acts posterA STRONG NORDIC PRESENCE
The Nordic contingent is already looking particularly interesting.

Danish performer EMMA SEHESTED HØEG moves up to the Orange Stage following her standout appearance at Roskilde’s Arena stage in 2025, while rapper KUNDO arrives after a summer in which he made a significant impact on the Danish charts.  Norwegian rap giants KARPE are also heading to Roskilde. There is an extra sense of occasion here: with the group preparing for their farewell tour, their Roskilde performance will be their final concert in Denmark.

That makes this one of the first genuinely unmissable moments hiding inside the announcement.

AND THEN THERE ARE THE WILD CARDS
Florida rapper 454 has developed a devoted following with pitch-shifted vocals, elastic production and a sound that sits somewhere outside conventional hip-hop categories. His early support from Frank Ocean, along with collaborations with artists including Playboi Carti and Freddie Gibbs, has helped establish him as an artist worth watching.

British singer and actor SUKI WATERHOUSE brings dreamy, cinematic indie pop, while New York artist JAMES K takes things towards dream pop, trip-hop, ambient and shoegaze.

Put all 18 names together and you get something that feels less like a conventional festival announcement and more like a musical treasure map.

There are familiar names. There are cult favourites. There are artists operating at the cutting edge of their respective scenes. And there are plenty of acts that could become the discovery you end up talking about long after the festival is over.

THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that these 18 artists represent just the opening chapter.  Roskilde says the full 2027 programme will eventually grow to around 180 acts, spread across eight days and an enormous range of genres, generations and musical cultures.

Roskilde Festival 2027 takes place from 26th June to 3rd July 2027, and tickets are already on sale. So, yes, TAME IMPALA are the headline-grabbing name in the first announcement. But perhaps the more interesting story is what sits around them.  Because if this is Roskilde’s opening move, the question is no longer whether the festival has something for everyone.

It is what on earth are they going to announce next?

This version is deliberately written to feel like editorial content for a festival website rather than a rewritten press release, with the heavier acts, Nordic names and wildcard artists given enough space to create more curiosity and sharing potential.
