Germany’s SUMMER BREEZE Open Air is already looking ahead to 2027, and the first announcement suggests that its 30th anniversary is going to be something special.
Taking place in Dinkelsbühl from 18th – 21st August 2027, the festival has announced an impressive first wave of more than 50 acts, with a line-up that stretches from modern metal and deathcore to classic heavy metal, crossover, punk and folk influences.
There are some particularly big names in the announcement. ELECTRIC CALLBOY, HAMMERFALL, HALESTORM, LORD OF THE LOST, ELUVEITIE, ATREYU, KATAKLYSM, DARK FUNERAL and PRIMAL FEAR all feature, alongside a number of more left-field choices that show Summer Breeze isn’t simply relying on the biggest names in metal.
But perhaps the most intriguing announcement is CHILDREN OF BODOM. Following their split in 2019 and the death of frontman Alexi Laiho, the band returned for two memorial shows in February 2026. Summer Breeze says the reformed band will now make one of only a limited number of festival appearances in 2027.
There is also a strong dose of nostalgia. CLAWFINGER return to Summer Breeze after eight years, while EDGUY and H-BLOCKX add further connections to the festival’s history and the wider European rock scene.
And then there are the bands likely to create some of the festival’s most chaotic moments: SHADOW OF INTENT, MAKE THEM SUFFER, SPITTING GLASS, GUTALAX and PEELINGFLESH, bringing everything from symphonic deathcore to hardcore and brutal extreme metal.

With more than 125 bands expected across the four-day festival, camping included with the festival ticket, and Summer Breeze describing itself as Europe’s largest independent metal festival, there is clearly plenty more to come.
Thirty years in, Summer Breeze doesn’t appear to be slowing down. If this is only the first announcement, the 2027 line-up could become one of the festival’s biggest yet.
