THE XX are returning to Rock Werchter, and that’s big news! The three members are currently spending a lot of time in the studio, working together on new music. In 2026, they’ll make their long-awaited return to the stage. On Friday 3rd July, THE XX will close the Main Stage of Rock Werchter with their minimalist mix of indie-rock, electronica, and dreampop. Their last appearance at the festival was in 2012. This is the comeback that will make Werchter’s hearts beat faster.
THE XX was formed in 2005 in London. Romy, Oliver Sims, and Jamie xx met at school. Their debut album ‘xx’ was released in 2009 and received rave reviews, topping numerous “Best of 2009” lists and earning them the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2010. With follow-up albums ‘Coexist’ (2012) and ‘I See You’ (2017), the band grew into one of the most influential acts of their generation, without ever losing their signature intimate sound. After a long period of silence, marked by the three members’ solo projects, they’ve now reunited. The xx have shared studio footage on social media, hinting at new music. “It is like The Avengers! We’ve said it ourselves. It’s always so nice to get back together with them,” said Jamie xx. The xx previously played at Rock Werchter in 2010 and 2012. Their return is eagerly awaited.
