THE CURE will close the first Øya day in Tøyenparken in the Amphitheatre, Wednesday, August 12. Live favorites AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS will play on the same day.
This summer, THE CURE will once again show why they are one of the world’s best concert attractions, with a full set of great songs. The band has wanted to play a selection of their favorite festivals, and Øya was on their list.
THE CURE was started as Easy Cure in 1976, by Robert Smith and schoolmates. Three years later, the name was shortened and the debut album Three Imaginary Boys was released. This was followed by a fantastic series of albums and singles, which formed the basis for the legendary status Smith and The Cure have today. In 2024, they released the album Songs of a Lost World, which was very well received and topped album charts in large parts of Europe. Many music editors believed it was one of the year’s strongest releases. They are currently working on even more music.

Their songs have varied between melancholic post-punk, synthpop, dreamy psychedelia and slow guitar pop. Their music has inspired several generations of artists and songwriters, which it continues to do. Many have a close relationship with classic songs such as Boys Don’t Cry, A Forest, The Walk, Love Cats, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Friday I’m In Love, Close To Me and many others.
AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS have brought new energy and attention to Australian punk rock in recent years. The Melbourne band has clear references to the types of rock’n’roll Australia has been good at for many decades. They have won several awards in their homeland, and vocalist Amy Taylor is one of the leading frontmen of her generation.
After a few EPs, their debut album came in 2019. In the summer of 2021, they released the album Comfort to Me, with noticeably increasing interest worldwide. Cartoon Darkness followed three years later, to great applause.
The Line of Best Fit: – We know AMYL & THE SNIFFERS can do highway-caning punk, but being able to intersperse a critical takedown of cynics with a hook so infectiously catchy proves there is another angle to the Melbournites that, when unleashed, it creates something even more powerful than a well-timed sucker-punch.
The quartet receives ecstatic concert reviews every time they visit Europe. They have toured with their compatriots and Øya favorites King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and with American greats such as Foo Fighters, Weezer and Green Day. Now they are ready for ever bigger stages on their own.
