Get ready for Øya 2024! Organiser start the programming of the anniversary year 2024 with two big favorites who will play one after the other on the biggest stage on Wednesday 7th August. It will be the opening day of all time, with first PJ HARVEY and then PULP, right after each other in the Amphitheater – Can you think of a more wonderful way to start the 25th anniversary celebrations?
In August you can experience the first PULP concert in Norway in 13 years. Previous visits are often mentioned among the headliner concerts of all time, when they ended on our main stage in Middelalderparken in 2011. The band played a few festivals and arena concerts to thunderous cheers and fantastic reviews in the summer of 2023, after about 10 years of stay. It is therefore a band in great form that will round off the first night in Tøyenparken.
PULP was started by a group of teenagers in the late 70s and had a long way to reach a large audience. Frontman Jarvis Cocker is the only one who has been with us all the way. After many uneven years and a few releases in the 80s, they became big stars in the mid-90s. First they had success at home with His n Hers in 1994, before the international bestseller Different Class came the following year. The latter contained hit singles such as Disco 2000 and Common People. At the same time, they established themselves as a highly entertaining live band on large stages. In addition to the aforementioned singles, the reunion concert has included favorite songs such as Mis-Shapes, Sorted for E’s & Whizz, This Is Hardcore, Do You Remember the First Time and more. It’s just to be happy!
Festival organisers also look forward to welcoming one of their absolute favorites and dream booking back to Tøyenparken. After her 2023 tour has focused on songs from the latest album, PJ HARVEY will this summer play festival concerts that include songs from larger parts of her career.
Next week, PJ HARVEY plays two sold-out concerts at Sentrum Stage, and it is already clear that she will return to Oslo in August. Polly Jean Harvey has achieved the tricky combination of being a critical favorite and having commercial success, with music that is always on the fringes of the music that normally dominates the sales charts. After over 30 years as an artist, she never ceases to impress, surprise, fascinate or inspire. At the same time, she is a live artist that you cannot get tired of.
Harvey already experienced great attention with her debut album Dry in 1992. She has confirmed and strengthened her status as a fearless and exploratory artist with albums such as Rid of Me (1993), To Bring You My Love (1995), Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea (2000) and Let England Shake (2011). This summer she released the album I Inside the Old Year Dying.
In addition to ten albums of her own, she has had time to collaborate with, among others, Nick Cave, Josh Homme, Marianne Faithfull, Tricky, Mark Lanegan and Sparklehorse. Harvey has also written music for plays, film and television.
