New Order join the line-up of Primavera Sound Barcelona and Madrid 2023

New Order play Primavera Sound Madrid and Barcelona 2023 news

There was a time when you were either guitars or synths. Until NEW ORDER came along to show us that you could be guitars and synths. That the sum didn’t mean losing the essence but opened up pop to new aesthetic and emotional dimensions. Without the visionary intuition of the band that arose from the ashes of Joy Division, the mixture of sounds that today seems the natural thing to find at a festival like this one might not have been possible. For this reason, it is logical, fair and exciting to announce that NEW ORDER are joining the line-up of Primavera Sound Barcelona and Madrid 2023.

Two occasions to meet again with an overwhelming collection of intergenerational anthems: from Bizarre Love Triangle to Blue Monday, a landmark single that was released 40 years ago today, on 7th March, 1983. From Temptation to Thieves Like Us. From The Perfect Kiss to True Faith. From Love Vigilantes to Your Silent Face… Leading up to recent gems like Tutti Frutti and Be a Rebel, on which Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman continue to provide melodic intuition and giving it their all.

With this new addition, Primavera Sound will bring about the exceptional formation of the authentic synth love triangle: it will be one of the few occasions when the three great references of electronic pop, NEW ORDER, DEPECHE MODE and PET SHOP BOYS will coincide at the same event. The Manchester band will perform at the Parc del Fòrum on June 1st and at the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey on June 8th, joining the front line of the Thursday line-ups, which will also be headed by BLUR and HALSEY. This is yet another incentive for a line-up that is gender-balanced and has a plural appeal that also includes KENDRICK LAMAR, ROSALÍA, CALVIN HARRIS, THE MOLDY PEACHES, LE TIGRE and SKRILLEX among many others.
