Fontaines DC play Rock in Roma 2024

One of the most loved bands on the contemporary alternative scene arrives at Rock in Roma 2023: the Irish FONTAINES D.C. they will perform on June 25th 2024 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone (Cavea).

FONTAINES D.C. conquered audiences and critics with their debut album “Dogrel”, a masterpiece, conceived in 2019 on the streets of Dublin, which earned a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize. The Guardian gave the album a five-star review, hailing it as a “perfect debut”.

The band has been acclaimed by The FADER (“one of the most incredible bands around”), Rolling Stone (“our new favorite punk band”), The Guardian (who called the recording project “brilliant, from start to finish ”), Pitchfork, The Times, NPR Music, Fader, Q and many many more. “Album of the Year 2019” for Rough Trade and BBC 6Music, “Dogrel” reached the Top 10 of the UK Album Chart.

Confirmation of the band’s talent comes in 2020 with the excellent “A Hero’s Death”. The album positioned itself at the top of the charts of the best albums of 2020, obtaining a nomination at the BRIT Awards as “Best International Group” and a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Album category. “Skinty Fia”, the third album via Partisan, finally arrives in April 2022. The album of consecration which debuted at number one in the album charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and debuted at number 12 in Italy.

FONTAINES D.C. are currently the best band around. This is demonstrated not only by the acclaim of the press and the always sold out shows, but by their live power: listening to them and seeing them perform is a breath-taking experience.

The Fontaines D.C. are Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), Grian Chatten (vocals) and Tom Coll (drums). The band takes its name from a character from the film “The Godfather”, Johnny Fontane, singer and movie star played by Al Martino. Fontane was the godson of Vito Corleone. The initials D.C. they stand for “Dublin City”.

What sets Fontaines D.C apart is their authenticity: “I think there’s authenticity in what we do, and people have been starved of authenticity for too long,” Chatten said in an interview with Irish radio. This commitment to the authentic is key to understanding the D.C. aesthetic. of Fontaines.

After obtaining nominations at the BRITs (“Best International Group”), the GRAMMYs (“Best Rock Album”) and the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards (“Best Album”), the band returns in April 2022 with “Skinty Fia”, the album of consecration, in which they address their Irishness from afar, while rebuilding their lives elsewhere. For a band whose hometown runs through their veins, the album finds them trying to resolve the need to broaden their horizons with the affection they still feel for the land and people they left behind. There are echoes of the rock’n’roll of “Dogrel” and the darker atmosphere of “A Hero’s Death”, but “Skinty Fia” is much broader and more cinematic. The Fontaines D.C. they are a band in a constant state of evolution and this time the result is an album of changing moods, surprising insights and maturity.
