Parookaville is one of Europe’s most vibrant and imaginative electronic music festivals, held annually at Weeze Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since its inception in 2015, Parookaville has rapidly grown into one of Germany’s largest EDM festivals, known for its immersive, city like setting and an atmosphere that celebrates freedom, creativity, and madness.
The festival was founded by Bernd Dicks and his team, who wanted to create more than just a music event, they envisioned a fictional city dedicated to electronic music and love of life. Each year, Parookaville transforms the former military airbase into a sprawling fantasy metropolis complete with a city gate, post office, church (where visitors can actually get married), and themed districts. Festival-goers even receive a “visa” instead of a regular ticket, enhancing the idea of entering a parallel world.
Parookaville takes place at Airport Weeze, close to the Dutch border. The unique venue, a decommissioned military airfield offers a massive open space for the multi-stage event and camping areas, contributing to its distinctive vibe.
The festival primarily celebrates electronic dance music (EDM), but it also features a diverse mix of sub-genres, including, House, Techno, Trance, Future Bass, Hardstyle, Big Room, Drum and Bass.
Internationally renowned DJs such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, and Charlotte de Witte have graced the stages, alongside rising stars and underground acts.
Parookaville has seen remarkable growth since its debut. What started with around 25,000 attendees in 2015 now attracts over 225,000 visitors annually across three days. Its rapid rise in popularity makes it one of the most sought-after EDM festivals in Europe, often selling out months in advance.
What truly sets Parookaville apart is its story driven design, it’s not just a festival, it’s an experience. Visitors don’t just attend; they become citizens of a fictional city that comes alive once a year, where music, art, and fantasy blend into a surreal celebration of electronic music culture.
