Nummirock is a Midsummer festival focused on heavy music, which has been organized on the lakeside of Nummijärvi village, which is part of Kauhajoki, since 1987. Before that, midsummer dances of the local agricultural society were already organized in the area in the 1930s. After the war, the event was known for a long time as Nummijärvi’s Midsummer Festival. In the late 90s, the event, which used to be known as a general festival, began to profile mainly focusing on heavy metal.
From 2002 onwards, the offer can be considered to be completely pure rock music. The change was partly due to bad financial setbacks. Nummirock later grew to a three-day event, and since the 30th anniversary, it has been a four-day event. The most famous bands that have visited the festival have been, among others, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Megadeth, Ramones, Scorpions, Motörhead, Slayer, Danzig, Morbid Angel, Scooter, Sepultura and Deep Purple. Nummirock’s visitor record is approximately 18,500.
