Jera on Air is a prominent music festival held annually in the picturesque village of Ysselsteyn, situated in the south of the Netherlands. It’s widely regarded as the Netherlands’ largest festival dedicated to punk, hardcore, and metalcore music, drawing a dedicated following from across Europe, particularly from Germany due to its close proximity to the border.
The festival typically takes place over three days in late June, offering a comprehensive and immersive experience for attendees. Music-wise, Jera on Air delivers an uncompromising line-up focusing heavily on punk rock, various subgenres of hardcore (including melodic hardcore and punk hardcore), and metalcore. Over the years, the festival has boasted an impressive roster of both legendary and emerging acts within these genres. While the core genres remain consistent, there can be occasional forays into related styles like drum and bass, particularly with live band performances, and even occasional experimental or avant-garde metal acts.
Jera on Air has steadily grown in popularity. Recent editions have seen the festival host approximately 10,000 spectators, creating a vibrant yet often described as “cosy” atmosphere compared to some of the larger European festivals. Beyond the five live music stages, the festival also features a DJ stage, a special beer garden, a diverse food court offering vegetarian and vegan options, signing sessions with bands, a festival market, and camping facilities, ensuring a fully packed festival experience for all who attend.
