Bourbon & Beyond is a festival that uniquely combines world-class music, a rich culinary scene, and, most importantly, Kentucky’s famous spirit. Launched in 2017, the festival was founded by Danny Wimmer Presents, a major music festival producer, to celebrate the “bourbon lifestyle” and has grown to become a massive four-day event held at the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
The musical lineup is exceptionally diverse and doesn’t adhere to a single genre, instead curating an eclectic mix of legendary and contemporary artists from rock, pop, alternative, Americana, blues, and country. Attendance has grown dramatically, with the festival setting a record in 2024 by welcoming 210,000 people over the weekend, making it the largest music festival in Kentucky’s history. The overall atmosphere is what truly sets Bourbon & Beyond apart; it’s an immersive experience that goes well beyond the music. Attendees can enjoy a wide array of activities, including bourbon tastings, cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, and educational workshops hosted by master distillers.
This blend of top-tier entertainment and a deep dive into the culture of bourbon creates a sophisticated yet relaxed and celebratory vibe, making it a must-attend event for music fans and bourbon enthusiasts alike.

The Highland Festival Grounds are a key part of the larger Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC), a massive multi-use facility in Louisville, Kentucky. The KEC’s history dates back to 1950, when the Kentucky State Fair Board acquired the land to create a large-scale exhibition and fairgrounds. Over the decades, the site has been expanded to include arenas like Freedom Hall and Broadbent Arena, becoming the sixth-largest facility of its type in the United States. Located strategically at the junction of I-65 and I-264, and adjacent to the Louisville International Airport, the KEC is easily accessible and a hub for major events. The Highland Festival Grounds, a sprawling outdoor space within the KEC complex, has become a premier location for large-scale outdoor festivals.
It is best known as the home of the Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life festivals, which draw hundreds of thousands of attendees annually. These events capitalize on the grounds’ vast size, allowing for multiple stages, extensive food and beverage vendors, and immersive experiences that go beyond a typical concert. In addition to music festivals, the KEC as a whole hosts a diverse calendar of events, including the Kentucky State Fair, the National Farm Machinery Show, and a variety of sporting events and trade shows.
