The Strokes & Beirut Join Nos Alive 2027 For A Day Of Indie Anthems And Magic!

The Strokes and Beirut play NOS Alive 2027

NOS Alive 2027 has just added two very different but equally distinctive names to its growing line-up. THE STROKES and BEIRUT are both confirmed for 8th July, bringing New York indie-rock swagger and Zach Condon’s richly layered, globe-spanning sound to the Portuguese festival.

The latest announcements give the opening day of NOS Alive ’27 a compelling musical identity. With THE NEIGHBOURHOOD already on the bill, the festival is building a day that moves between alternative-rock favourites, atmospheric indie and the kind of songwriting that rewards both a huge festival crowd and a closer listen.

NOS Alive returns to the Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Lisbon on 8th to 10th July 2027 for its 19th edition. And while plenty more names are still to come, these additions give fans another reason to start planning their summer.

THE STROKES BRING THE RIFFS THAT DEFINED A GENERATION
For alternative-rock fans, the arrival of THE STROKES is a major announcement. Since emerging from New York in the late 1990s, the band have helped shape the sound and attitude of modern guitar music, pairing sharp, stripped-back riffs with hooks that have become part of the alternative-rock soundtrack.

Their debut album, Is This It, arrived in 2001 and quickly became one of the defining records of its era. Songs such as “Last Nite”, “Someday” and “Hard to Explain” captured a cool, restless energy that would influence a generation of guitar bands. Later releases, including Room on Fire and the Grammy-winning The New Abnormal, demonstrated that their appeal extended well beyond the early-2000s indie explosion.

For their NOS Alive appearance, fans can look forward to the prospect of hearing era-defining tracks such as “Reptilia” and “You Only Live Once” alongside material from the band’s more recent work. Their mix of wiry guitars, memorable choruses and understated confidence feels perfectly suited to a summer festival stage.

THE STROKES will perform on the NOS Stage on Thursday 8th July, joining THE NEIGHBOURHOOD and BEIRUT on the same day.

BEIRUT ADD A DIFFERENT KIND OF MAGIC
Where THE STROKES deliver tightly wound guitar anthems, BEIRUT take a more exploratory route. Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon, the project has built a distinctive musical world from indie folk, orchestral pop and influences drawn from different cultures and traditions.

Since the release of Gulag Orkestar in 2006, BEIRUT have developed a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Brass, strings, unusual arrangements and Condon’s unmistakable voice combine to create songs that can feel like postcards from places both real and imagined.

Their more recent album, A Study of Losses, released in 2025, explores themes of memory, disappearance and preservation, expanding the project’s sound through choral and ambient textures. It follows Hadsel (2023) and continues BEIRUT’s long-standing interest in musical discovery.

At a festival known for bringing together major international names, BEIRUT offer something refreshingly different: music that invites the crowd to slow down, get lost in the atmosphere and experience a more reflective side of live performance.

Their appearance on the NOS Stage on 8th July adds another layer to a day that is already developing a strong alternative and indie identity.

NOS ALIVE IS BUILDING A STRONG OPENING DAY
The contrast between these announcements is part of the appeal. THE STROKES bring the sharp-edged guitar sound and instantly recognisable songs that have made them one of alternative rock’s most enduring bands. BEIRUT offer a more orchestral, globally influenced approach, while THE NEIGHBOURHOOD bring their own blend of alternative rock and moody, atmospheric pop.

It is a combination that gives Thursday’s line-up breadth without losing its identity. For fans who like their festivals to move between different sounds rather than stay in one lane, the developing bill offers plenty to get excited about. And this is still only a snapshot of NOS Alive 2027. With two further days of performances to fill and more announcements expected, the festival has plenty of space to introduce other major headliners, emerging artists and unexpected discoveries.
