Copenhagen’s premier alternative and experimental music festival, A Colossal Weekend, has officially expanded its 2027 lineup with four new heavy-hitting additions. Scottish indie pioneers ARAB STRAP, Italian dark-doom innovators MESSA, American metal shape-shifters INTER ARMA, and Louisville psych collective DOOM GONG are all set to perform.
Taking place across VEGA and Basement from 13th – 15th May 2027, the Copenhagen festival will feature around 30 live acts selected for their boundary-pushing sound and genre-defying approach to heavy and experimental music.
These newly announced acts join an already stacked 2027 bill that features A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, WARNING, SADNESS, and ANTROPOCENO.
When booking A Colossal Weekend, we rarely look for artists that fit neatly into a particular genre or context. We’re far more interested in bands that continue to challenge their own boundaries and their audience’s expectations. Arab Strap have spent three decades being entirely their own thing. Messa have built a sound that exists in its own universe, while Inter Arma consistently refuse to stand still. Doom Gong represents a new generation of artists driven by curiosity rather than genre affiliation. Together, they say a lot about the kind of music we want to present – Jeppe Nygaard Christensen, Festival Director and Booker at VEGA.
ARAB STRAP
For over thirty years, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton have stood as two of the most singular voices in British alternative music. Blending electronic beats, raw guitar work, dark humour, and brutally honest spoken word, the Scottish duo continue to resist easy categorization. Their latest release, Half-Told Tales, marks three decades of music that remains as unapologetically real as ever.
MESSA
Arriving from Italy, Messa have spent a decade carving out their own distinct corner of heavy music. Fusing doom metal, dark ambient, jazz, and progressive rock, the quartet created their own sub-genre title—”Scarlet Doom”—to describe their atmospheric sound. Following the critical acclaim of The Spin, their Copenhagen set promises to be a masterclass in heavy emotion.
INTER ARMA
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Inter Arma are a band that completely ignore musical boundaries. Across six studio albums, they have effortlessly blended sludge, black metal, grindcore, southern rock, and acoustic minimalism. Two decades into their career, they remain one of modern metal’s most unpredictable live acts.
DOOM GONG
Rounding out the announcement are Louisville’s Doom Gong, a seven-piece collective who coined their own genre term: “Denim Psych.” Built on a unique setup featuring two drummers and constantly shifting instrumental roles, the band moves seamlessly between jazz fusion, jam-heavy psychedelic rock, and crushing riffs.
