Rock in Roma has announced its first major act for 2027, with FONTAINES D.C. set to headline the festival at Rome’s Ippodromo delle Capannelle on 18th June.
The announcement gives fans an early taste of what is already shaping up to be an exciting 17th edition of the Italian festival, which is preparing to welcome some of the biggest names in international and Italian live music to the capital.
For FONTAINES D.C., the Rome show will come as the band enters a new chapter with the release of their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber. The album is due out on 16 October via XL Recordings and is being described as a significant change of direction for the Dublin-formed band.

Produced by James Ford, Dopamine Chamber sees FONTAINES D.C. move further away from the guitar-driven sound that defined their earlier records, embracing a more atmospheric and melodic approach. The album was recorded across London, the English countryside and Palermo, with vocalist Grian Chatten recording his parts in an improvised studio constructed using mattresses and cushions.
The first taste of the new record has already arrived with the single “Marianne”, offering an early indication of the darker, more expansive sound that runs through the album.
FONTAINES D.C. have built an impressive catalogue since their debut Dogrel arrived in 2019. That was followed by A Hero’s Death in 2020 and Skinty Fia in 2022, the latter reaching number one in both the UK and Ireland. Their fourth album, Romance, followed in 2024 and was certified platinum in the UK.
The current line-up features Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan and Tom Coll.
Their appearance at Rock in Roma will therefore be one of the festival’s first major moments of 2027, bringing one of alternative rock’s most distinctive contemporary bands to one of Rome’s best-known live music venues.
Fontaines D.C. will perform at Ippodromo delle Capannelle on 18th June 2027. Doors are scheduled to open at 5pm, with the concert due to begin at 9:45pm.

With Fontaines D.C. confirmed as the first announcement for Rock in Roma 2027, attention will now turn to the rest of the festival line-up and the other artists still to be revealed.
