Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have wasted no time making their 2027 festivals look like serious contenders for the biggest rock weekends in Europe.
Following the earlier announcement of BLINK 182 as the first headliner, the German twin festivals have now unveiled their first major wave of artists for next summer. And this is not a case of padding out the poster with a handful of familiar names. The latest announcement stretches from alternative rock and hardcore to modern metal, punk, electronic music and some of the biggest festival acts of the past four decades.
At the very top of the bill, BLINK 182 are now joined by DIE TOTEN HOSEN and BRING ME THE HORIZON, giving the festivals three very different generations of headline rock music.

FAITH NO MORE are returning to Germany for the first time in 12 years. THE PRODIGY are bringing their notoriously chaotic collision of rock and electronic music back to the festival circuit. EVANESCENCE are heading back to the major European stages, while PARKWAY DRIVE, TURNSTILE,
BILLY TALENT and FALLING IN REVERSE add some serious firepower further down the bill – And that is only scratching the surface.
DIE TOTEN HOSEN RETURN FOR ANOTHER CHAPTER OF FESTIVAL HISTORY
For German festival fans, the return of DIE TOTEN HOSEN is one of the biggest stories in the announcement.
The Düsseldorf punk rock giants will make their tenth appearance at Rock am Ring and their ninth at Rock im Park in 2027. Their relationship with the festivals stretches back to the early 1990s, making this much more than another headline booking.
There is an added sense of occasion this time around. The band are due to arrive with their final studio album, Trink aus, wir müssen gehen, although anyone expecting a subdued farewell should probably think again.

DIE TOTEN HOSEN have always been a band built for enormous crowds, sweaty rooms and festival chaos, and their history with Rock am Ring in particular is packed with the sort of stories that become part of festival folklore.
Frontman Campino has spoken about the band’s long relationship with the two festivals, recalling everything from wild parties and injuries to friendships and waking up in other people’s tents.
That history should make their 2027 appearances particularly significant.
For a festival that has been running for decades, there are few bookings that underline its own history quite like bringing back one of the bands that have been there for so much of it.
BRING ME THE HORIZON ARE NOW FIRMLY AT THE TOP
The other new headliner could hardly be more different.
BRING ME THE HORIZON have spent much of the past decade expanding far beyond their metalcore beginnings, building a sound that can move between crushing guitars, electronic production, pop melodies and arena sized choruses without ever losing the band’s identity.
Their elevation to headliner status at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park feels like a reflection of just how far they have travelled. Oli Sykes and company have become one of the biggest British rock bands of their generation, with increasingly ambitious live productions and a following that reaches well beyond the traditional metal audience.
Putting them alongside DIE TOTEN HOSEN and BLINK 182 also makes for an intriguing headline combination. All three acts come from very different corners of rock, yet each has managed to turn a distinctive sound into something capable of filling huge stages.
That could make for one of the most varied headline weekends in the festival’s history.
FAITH NO MORE MAKE A LONG AWAITED RETURN
For many rock fans, however, the announcement that will have generated the biggest reaction is the return of FAITH NO MORE.
The band have not performed in Germany for 12 years and will make their festival exclusive return at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park. There are few bands in alternative rock with quite the same ability to sound completely unpredictable while remaining instantly recognisable.
FAITH NO MORE helped tear up the rulebook around what alternative rock could sound like, bringing together heavy guitars, funk, experimental arrangements, humour and Mike Patton’s unmistakable vocals.
Their influence can still be heard all over modern rock and metal, making their appearance particularly appealing for fans who want something with a bit of history behind it. Better still, there is a nice piece of festival history attached to the booking. Patton referenced the band’s long friendship with Die Toten Hosen when discussing the announcement, noting that the two bands had last seen each other more than 13 years ago in Argentina.
Now they get to meet again on a much bigger stage.

THE PRODIGY WILL BRING THE CHAOS
If there is one band on the new announcement guaranteed to make the definition of a rock festival feel considerably broader, it is them.
For more than 30 years, THE PRODIGY have existed somewhere between electronic music, punk attitude, rave culture and rock aggression. Their festival performances have become legendary for their sheer physical energy, and placing them among a line up this guitar heavy makes perfect sense.
Their inclusion also says something about what Rock am Ring and Rock im Park are trying to do with the 2027 line up.
This is not simply a collection of traditional rock bands. There is room for artists who approach heavy music from completely different directions, and THE PRODIGY remain one of the most convincing examples of how powerful that combination can be.
Expect a lot of people to lose their minds when that set starts.
PARKWAY DRIVE BRING THE HEAVY ARTILLERY
For anyone heading to Germany specifically for metal, the announcement is stacked.
Australian metal giants PARKWAY DRIVE are back, bringing a reputation for huge live shows and some of the biggest production in modern metal.
They have travelled a long way from the Australian hardcore scene since their formation, becoming one of the genre’s biggest international festival acts along the way.
Their return is also being billed alongside new music, which gives their 2027 appearances another potential talking point. PARKWAY DRIVE are a band whose shows are designed for big outdoor stages, and a festival audience gives them exactly the kind of setting in which their sound works best.
EVANESCENCE RETURN TO THE BIG STAGES
EVANESCENCE are another major addition, with Amy Lee and the band returning to the major festival stages following a sold out arena tour.
Few bands from the early 2000s alternative rock explosion have retained quite the same identity. The combination of Lee’s distinctive vocals, enormous melodies and heavy guitars still makes Evanescence immediately recognisable, and their return gives the 2027 line up another act capable of appealing across generations.
There is also something pleasingly old school about seeing EVANESCENCE on a festival bill alongside Faith No More, Billy Talent, The Prodigy and Bad Religion while newer acts such as Turnstile and Poppy push the programme in other directions.
TURNSTILE REPRESENT THE FUTURE
If FAITH NO MORE represent one side of the festival’s history, TURNSTILE arguably represent where guitar music is heading next.
The Baltimore band have become one of the most talked about names in modern hardcore and alternative music, taking the intensity of hardcore punk and opening it up to a much wider musical palette. Their ability to pull in listeners from outside the traditional hardcore world has helped turn them into one of the most important contemporary guitar bands around.
For Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, their booking makes sense alongside the older names on the bill. The festivals have always been a place where established artists and emerging movements collide, and Turnstile are arguably one of the clearest examples of that happening in the 2027 line up.
BILLY TALENT, BAD RELIGION AND SIMPLE PLAN BRING THE PUNK FAVOURITES
There is plenty here for fans who prefer their rock with a healthy dose of punk.
BILLY TALENT are returning to the festivals while currently working on their next album. Their history with Rock am Ring and Rock im Park makes them another familiar name who should have no trouble turning a huge crowd into a mass singalong.
BAD RELIGION bring an altogether different kind of pedigree. Few American punk bands have had such a lasting influence on the genre, and their presence gives the bill another direct link between the older generations of punk and the bands that followed.
Then there is SIMPLE PLAN, another act with an enormous catalogue of songs that have become festival staples.
Put those three together and there is plenty of opportunity for nostalgia without the line up becoming trapped in the past.
AND THEN THE METAL GETS EVEN HEAVIER
The new announcement is particularly generous to metal fans. MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LORNA SHORE, I PREVAIL, AMON AMARTH, ARCH ENEMY, IMMINENCE, ORBIT CULTURE and BEARTOOTH are all confirmed.
That is a formidable collection in itself!
LORNA SHORE will bring some of the most extreme material on the bill, while AMON AMARTH and ARCH ENEMY represent two very different but equally established corners of European metal.
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE will be familiar territory for anyone who grew up with 2000s metalcore, while BEARTOOTH and I PREVAIL provide a more modern take on the genre.
IMMINENCE and ORBIT CULTURE add yet more variety, ensuring that the heavier end of the weekend is not simply dominated by one particular sound. For anyone planning their festival schedule around guitars turned up to eleven, there is going to be a lot of difficult decision making.
NOTHING BUT THIEVES, POPPY AND SKI AGGU ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION
Away from the heavier names, NOTHING BUT THIEVES are another major addition worth keeping an eye on. The Essex band have established themselves as one of Britain’s most successful modern alternative rock acts, capable of switching between atmospheric songs and huge festival ready rock.
POPPY is a particularly interesting booking too. Her music has spent years refusing to stay inside one genre, moving between pop, industrial, metal and alternative music in increasingly unpredictable ways.
SKI AGGU, meanwhile, brings a completely different energy to the bill, showing once again that the festivals are not interested in sticking rigidly to a single definition of rock music.
The result is a programme that feels considerably broader than the name of the festival might initially suggest – And importantly, this is only the first major wave!
The organisers have confirmed that further artists will be announced over the coming months, so the final 2027 poster is still some way from complete.
THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
The most interesting thing about the 2027 announcement might be what has not been announced yet.
With more artists still to come, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have already managed to put together a bill that covers an enormous stretch of rock history.
With another wave of names still to come, the question now is not whether Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have made a serious start to their 2027 line up.
It is what they are going to announce next.
Rock am Ring 2027 takes place at the Nürburgring from 4th to 6th June. Rock im Park runs simultaneously in Nuremberg. Further artists are expected to be announced over the coming months.
