Tuska 2027 just got a whole lot heavier. JUDAS PRIEST, one of the most influential and enduring bands in heavy metal history, are heading to Helsinki to headline Finland’s biggest metal festival. The Birmingham legends will make their long-awaited Tuska debut at Suvilahti from 2nd – 4th July 2027.
And really, what better place for the Metal Gods to make their entrance?
For more than five decades, JUDAS PRIEST have been at the heart of heavy metal. From the moment Rob Halford’s unmistakable voice first tore through the speakers, the band have pushed the genre forward, helped shape its visual identity and inspired countless generations of musicians along the way.
The numbers are impressive, but it is the songs that tell the real story. British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller remain essential listening for any self-respecting metal fan, while anthems such as “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight” have long since escaped the confines of the genre to become part of rock culture itself.
Then there’s the look. Leather. Studs. Motorcycles. Chains. JUDAS PRIEST didn’t just play heavy metal, they looked like heavy metal. Their image became as influential as their music, helping establish the visual language that countless bands would follow.
But don’t make the mistake of thinking this is a victory lap for a band resting on its past. Judas Priest are still delivering the goods. Their latest album, Invincible Shield, arrived in 2024 as the band’s 19th studio record, demonstrating that the fire behind one of metal’s greatest institutions is still burning.
Their Tuska appearance also completes a formidable headliner line-up. JUDAS PRIEST will share top billing with LORNA SHORE and the returning CHILDREN OF BODOM, setting the stage for a festival that promises to cover an enormous stretch of the heavy music spectrum.
Elsewhere on the bill, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, KANONENFIEBER, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, GUILT TRIP, STRATOVARIUS, DANKO JONES, SMASH INTO PIECES, GREEN LUNG, FOX LAKE, GAEREA, AVRALIZE and SINIZTER are all set to bring their own brand of heaviness to Helsinki.
There’s a special treat in store for STRATOVARIUS fans, too, with the Finnish power metal giants set to perform their classic Visions album in full for its 30th anniversary.
And this is only the beginning. With more names still waiting to be unleashed, Tuska 2027 is already looking like an essential date in the metal calendar.
